Hurricane Ian Commercial Claims

Over 32,800 commercial damage claims were filed from Hurricane Ian – as reported by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Out of these, 22,299 have not received any compensation for their damage.

Thousands of commercial claims remain open, and these business owners have one thing on their minds….. Getting back to normal.

Hurricane Ian damaged residential and commercial properties throughout Florida. Ian is Florida’s costliest and one of the most powerful hurricanes to strike the state. Triumph Consulting is here to help policyholders who are facing claim denials, underpayments, or even delays in their claim process. The fact is insurance companies take advantage of homeowners. Insurance companies are known for doing whatever they can to maximize their own profits – even if it means denying completely valid commercial damage claims.

Will my insurance company cover my Hurricane Ian property damage claim?

Commercial property insurance varies depending on a wide range of factors, and policy offerings differ greatly as well.

Depending on the coverage you opt for, you may have hurricane coverage for the following types of damage to your commercial property.

  • Building and structure

  • Roof

  • Office contents

  • Electrical devices

  • Equipment

  • Inventory

  • Flood damage (if you have flood insurance)

What can I do to strengthen my commercial damage claim?

Florida is no stranger to hurricanes, and Florida businesses need to prepare before a storm strikes.

At the start of hurricane season, we always recommend taking pictures of the outside and inside of your commercial property – especially your roof and ceiling. This will serve as evidence to support your damage claim, should you have one.

Next, it’s important to know where your coverage stands. What coverage do you have, and do you have enough? If you need to make changes to your policy, then doing so while the window is open is critical. You also have to determine whether flood insurance is applicable in your case or not. Many policies cover some form of water damage. Be mindful that flood damage is not water damage. To be covered from flood damage, you need a policy that specifies coverage for floods.

You may be compensated if any of your office contents are damaged. Have an accurate list of all your equipment and inventory – with receipts or purchase orders if possible!

An often overlooked action many business owners fail to take is to have their property inspected after a storm.

After a hurricane, it’s important to have a public adjuster inspect your property. You may have damage and be completely unaware.

Not all damage is visible. Public adjusters have access to sophisticated tools to help determine whether or not your property was damaged. Triumph Consulting is known for providing comprehensive inspections and finding damage others miss.
